The World of Spirits of the Russian People

The book "The World of Spirits of the Russian People" is dedicated to the revered spirits in the Russian folk, with whom peasants encountered in their homes, yards, forests, fields, and rivers. There is much in common between the world... of spirits of the Russians and those of related Indo-European peoples. We see similar similarities between the worlds of spirits of peoples living on different continents as well. The household spirit, yard spirit, bath spirit, leshy, vodyanoy, rusalka – this is what comes to mind at first. There are also lesser-known spirits, such as ovinnik, shishiga, kikimora, meadow, field, and marsh spirits. Our book not only tells about them, but also shows their manifestations depending on the seasons. Twelve spirits are each tied to their respective month. For example, in April, with the ice drifting, the vodyanoy awakens, in May, the rusalki begin their festivities, in July, the leshy causes the whirlpools, and behind him, the field spirit casts a mist in the fields.
