Moscow Stories

Old Moscow remembers many entertaining and instructive stories – about an elephant and a crocodile, about rooster fights, about a flattener and a woman with a roll, about landrinks, Philip's rolls, and Eliseev's pastries. And also about crafty ones and... the Venus de Milo, about fire watchtowers and baths, and even about ghosts… All these stories were collected in their time by the famous Uncle Gilyai – Vladimir Gilyarovsky, a reporter known to all, the author of the essays "Moscow and Muscovites." However, our new book is not just a tale of old Moscow by Gilyarovsky, it has a twist: its main hero is a cockroach, a small and inconspicuous ally of Uncle Gilyai, who described the Moscow life as seen from the pocket of a famous reporter.
