Boris Stepanovich Zhitzkov (1882-1938) - a famous children's writer, educator, and traveler. The future writer spent his childhood in Odessa and made friends with K.I. Chukovsky during his gymnasium years. After graduating from the Imperial Novorossiysk University (1906), B.S. Zhitzkov... embarked on his first voyage, and in 1912, he had the fortune to participate in a round-the-world trip.
After the publication of his first collection of stories "The Evil Sea" (1924), B.S. Zhitzkov became seriously engrossed in writing. He wrote primarily for children: telling them about the sea and the countries he visited, about animals, various professions, and of course, about the people who honestly do their work day after day, sometimes risking their lives. Boris Stepanovich Zhitzkov wrote numerous adventure stories and novellas ("Sea Stories", "Tales of Animals", "What I Saw", "What Happened").
This book includes stories from different collections. You will read about childhood pranks and mischief, and about the hard and responsible work of firefighters, captains, doctors, and postmen. Of course, you will find several stories about the sea, which B.S. Zhitzkov loved and knew very well, and you will also visit the mountains and the distant North, learn about sleds and icebreakers. Some stories will make you smile, while in reading others, you will worry about their heroes, but be assured, kids: everything will end well!
