The book of the renowned French writer Georges Montorgueil (real name Octave Lebeg; 1857-1933) tells about the King of France Louis XI, a controversial figure. Historians have awarded him the titles of Wise and Cautious, as an outstanding monarch and... brilliant politician. His main merit in the eyes of posterity was the unification of fragmented feudal France under the absolute power of the king. However, in achieving his goals, Louis XI did not shy away from any means: cunning intrigues, deceitful negotiations, bribery, treachery, and cruelty, for which his contemporaries nicknamed him the "World Spider." The edition contains 36 illustrations by the outstanding French artist Job (pseudonym of Jacques Onfroy de Bréville; 1858-1931), a master of book graphics and caricature.
