The Room of Comfort

All stories in the world are a little sad. But in those where there is winter, the heroes get older and magic inevitably happens.

"The Room of Comfort" is a story-fable, a quiet corner where one can wait out terrible times. Two girls lock themselves in an apartment in an attempt to shut out the outside world. Alya is depressed, and her sister comforts her with stories she makes up on the spot. Together they remember childhood at the summer house, fear calling Mom, and learn Swedish. They avoid talking about the trauma, even though its ghost hangs in the room.

The reader grabs onto hints: a rubber band during a school break, lines from chalk on the asphalt, raspberries from the bush during a walk with Grandpa.

Sooner or later, Alya will tame the bouncing memories and learn to live on. And we will do it together with her.
