The Weight of Gold

Humanity has used small pieces of precious metals with inscriptions and drawings for trade and wealth accumulation since ancient times. In recent years, with the advent of bank cards, apps, and other technologies, coins have become less frequent in our pockets. But everything that people have minted over the millennia has not disappeared: coins have simply transformed from money into keepers of many stories and keys to the past.

This book offers a perspective on world history through the lens of numismatics—the science of moments. Our reader will not only learn to understand the language of coins, travel back to distant eras and states, meet great rulers and masters, but perhaps decide to join the ranks of numismatists and begin collecting their own collection. Great discoveries start small—sometimes with a tiny metal circle.
