Everyone knows Ivan Tsarevich and Emelya, Baba Yaga and sister Alyonushka. But do you know who the mighty Attigytky is? Or the witch Lyutra? Or the sorceresses Keshalii? These characters are part of the fairy-tale cosmos of Russia, formed by...
the folklore of the Pomors and Cossacks, the peoples of Siberia, the Urals, and the Far East, the Caucasus, and the Volga region...
The fifty fairy tales included in this book have an amazing and sad fate: they were collected, translated, and published in the 19th – early 20th century. However, the first publications became the last: more than half of these wonderful creations of folk imagination have not been published since.
For the first time in a century, we are publishing a collection of lost fairy tales of the peoples of Russia: it is time to reopen this treasure trove and to look anew not only at the culture of the different peoples inhabiting our great country, but also at our entire history as a whole.
For this edition, we have prepared a unique visual series of illustrations from the 19th – early 20th century and images of the costumes and way of life of various peoples of Russia.
