Francis Barrett is a mysterious English author from the early seventeenth century; his only book "The Magus" was first published in 1801; little reliable information about him is available. For a long time, this work was obscure, and only in... the second half of the nineteenth century did it gain increased interest when it appeared on the recommended reading list of the Order of the Golden Dawn. The book is based on the works of renowned occult philosophers: Pietro d'Abano, Agrippa, van Helmont, and others, and can be considered a primary source for the study of ceremonial magic in all its manifestations.
