Pyotr Ivanovich Bagin is a multifaceted person, a talented artist, equally mastering both pencil and word, who wrote and illustrated a beautiful, interesting, and useful picture book—a true encyclopedia of the animals of the Central Russian forest.
The spread illustrations dedicated... to each month of the year are not only expressive and picturesque, but they are also absolutely accurate from a zoological point of view. After winter comes spring, followed by summer and autumn… Around the little reader roam bears, deer, moose, squirrels, foxes, hares, and lynxes. Birds build nests, and animals dig burrows. Chicks hatch from eggs, tadpoles from eggs, and baby animals suckle their mother's milk.
