"Kim" combines the traits of a "coming-of-age novel", an exciting spy detective story, a philosophical parable, and an adventure novel. Kipling transports the reader to the unique and exotic world of India at the end of the 19th century and tells the story of an orphaned Irish boy, raised by an Indian woman, Kim O'Hara, who from a young age earns a living by begging and doing small tasks on the streets of Lahore.
