The most famous of the fortune-tellers, Marie Anna Adelaide Lenormand, better known as Madame Lenormand, was born on May 27, 1768, in a small French town of Alençon. Marie Lenormand restored the previously lost meaning to cartomancy - the study... of fate using predetermined meanings of cards and their combinations. Based on the standard 52-card deck, she created an improved deck of 36 cards in 1840, which was published in 1890 in Paris.
