They have come into possession of a medieval manuscript depicting a labyrinth, which has faded with time and is barely discernible.  

To help the scientists decipher what is written on the parchment, readers will have to travel back to the 13th century, visit a town and a village, a castle and a monastery, sit with students on a university bench, participate in a knightly tournament, and together with an alchemist grow a magical crystal.
