Look: Baikal! A Journey Book

The majestic and unique Baikal, the most beautiful and deepest lake in the world, is a treasure of the entire planet. But for each of us, Baikal is our own, special. Do you want to discover your Baikal?
Then you need... a good guide. The unique book journey you are about to embark on will prepare you for a meeting with the real Baikal: we have gathered a variety of facts — about the history of the lake, its character and inhabitants, about routes of different levels of difficulty — and we have tried to address the problems facing Baikal right now. There are so many that this enormous ancient lake really needs your help today. And we will tell you how to help Baikal and participate in its life from anywhere on Earth.
Anya and Varya Kendel are Russian artists, twin sisters who love to travel and create illustrations for books together. In 2021, Anya spent five months on the shores of Baikal, and two years earlier, she kayaked 400 kilometers along the western shore. It was during that trip that the idea to create a book about Baikal was born.
The project won the "Book Inside" competition held by the Samokat publishing house in 2019.
