The Wind Will Return

Annotation to the book "The Wind Will Return. Stories 2019–2023" by Nina Dashevskaya: The heroes of Nina Dashevskaya's stories escape from the world imposed on them by adults into their own world, which they are just beginning to invent. "Where are you wandering?" the adults ask them. Dashevskaya's heroes really wander — through their own cities and foreign ones, through the forest and along the sea. In summer, winter, and in-between seasons. They think this way — with their feet, and their journey from school to home helps to understand a lot. They are surprised by unexpected things and ask strange questions: "do ants understand that we are watching them?"; "is there a rafter on the 18th line?" They are open, they notice everything: look, the girl has a whole city embroidered on her coat, and the huge man has such a small dog. And those silly hats simply delight them. They often find it difficult. Learning, getting along with parents, fitting into other people's rules, agreeing. And sometimes it's hard to breathe. And the hope is only that one day they will be able to start the mill that will purify the air, and everyone will finally be able to breathe freely.
