Stories about giants, little people, and about you and me

Jonathan Swift, François Rabelais, Rudolf Erich Raspe — outstanding writers of their time, who influenced the culture of many countries. "Gulliver's Travels," "Gargantua and Pantagruel," and "The Adventures of Baron Munchausen" — novels that were published nearly a few hundred years ago, but which are still eagerly read and quoted by people of all ages. This is not surprising — virtuously using all shades of humor, from good-natured jokes and gentle irony to angry sarcasm and poisonous mockery, the authors, each in their own characteristic manner, created the greatest satirical monuments of world literature. The stories about the travels of the surgeon and then captain Lemuel Gulliver, about the family of gluttonous giants, and the cheerful exploits of Baron Munchausen inspired French artists Gustave Doré and Jean Granville to create illustrations that later became classic.
