Nine-year-old Thomas often sees things that others don't: tropical fish in city canals; the extraordinary beauty of Eliza, the girl with the leather leg; the kindness of the old neighbor, whom everyone considers a witch. And Jesus, who often comes to talk to Thomas. But besides this, he sees his father beating his mother, and even Jesus is powerless here. And only thanks to his friends, Thomas one day understands: to become happy, you just need to stop being afraid.
In 2012, Guus Køyer received one of the main awards in children's literature - the Astrid Lindgren Prize for piercing realism, sly humor and visionary fantasy. All this came together in the author’s most famous work - “The Book of All Things”, in which Køyer skillfully fits magic into everyday life, speaks simply and honestly about an unhappy childhood and cruelty in the family.
