The herald Kogtigriv had always been a loyal warrior of the Shadows. When his tribesmen, torn by contradictions, pledged allegiance to the bloodthirsty Darktail, he was among the few who remained faithful to their leader, the Warrior Code, and the Star Ancestors. Once a proud tribe of Shadows found itself on the brink of destruction, and Kogtigriv was forced to take responsibility for the fate of his companions.

Only one secret always stood between the herald and his loyalty to the tribe - love for the Thunder Warrior Dove. Frightened by terrifying visions, Kogtigriv's friend decides to leave the forest forever and asks him to make his choice. Torn by torment, the warrior remains true to his duty, but this breaks his heart. The responsibility to the tribe gradually becomes an unbearable burden for him. Meanwhile, the tribe of Shadows weakens, the leader rapidly loses authority, and the prophecies of the stars promise new trials. And when the healer Luzhsvet receives a mysterious message, Kogtigriv suddenly realizes that the only way to save everyone is to leave. From now on, his loyalty will belong only to Dove and their future kittens. However, will family be able to replace the tribe for Kogtigriv? And will the ancestors be satisfied with his choice?
