"The Talisman, or Richard the Lionheart in Palestine" is one of the best historical novels by the classic of English and world literature, Sir Walter Scott (1771-1832).
The historical framework of the novel is based on the events of the Crusades,... shrouded in legends and tales associated with the search for sacred relics and artifacts. The main character of the novel is the Scottish prince Sir Kenneth. In disguise, he joins the participants of the expedition to the Holy Land, where with true knightly valor, he uncovers the intrigues surrounding the suddenly ill King Richard the Lionheart suffering from a severe fever. Having evaded all the traps set for him by the Grand Master of the Knights Templar, he helps his monarch and wins the hand and heart of the beautiful Lady Edith - the niece of Richard.
This edition for the first time in Russia fully publishes a cycle of 73 illustrations created by the famous French artists A. Richmon and A. Perry for the Paris edition of 1892.
