Poor Liza

The collection includes three novellas by the outstanding Russian writer-historian N. M. Karamzin.
The novella "Poor Liza," which became a model of Russian sentimental literature, tells the sad fate of a peasant girl who falls in love with a handsome nobleman.... In the novella "Natalia, the Boyar's Daughter," the author recreates images of life in pre-Peter the Great Russia. The historical novella "Marfa the Posadnitsa, or the Conquest of Novgorod" tells about one of the most dramatic episodes in the history of the ancient city – its annexation to the Moscow principality.
The novellas are included in the school curriculum for extracurricular reading and are aimed at middle school students.
The texts of the works are presented without abridgments, printed on good paper in large font, and contain color illustrations by L. Salnikova.
