In 1890, Danish publisher E. Boyesen began a large-scale work – publishing Andersen's fairy tales with new illustrations by Hans Tegner simultaneously in five languages, including Russian. The edition of Andersen with Tegner's illustrations, published in different countries and in different languages, brought the artist worldwide fame. In Tegner, the world-famous Danish storyteller found for the first time an illustrator equal to him in talent and imagination, whose drawings were highly appreciated worldwide by both art connoisseurs and artists.
