The thirst for adventure has driven Farley Mowat, the author and hero of this book, throughout his life toward the boldest, if not to say mad, undertakings. For example, to buy a half-ruined schooner in a fishing village on Newfoundland... Island, somehow restore it, and set sail in the surrounding waters. The schooner was named "Happy Daring" because only a lucky star and the daring of the crew can explain the success of the whole venture. The schooner leaks, runs aground, gets frozen in ice, won't obey the helm, its engine breaks down more often than it works, and in general threatens to explode, but "Happy Daring" and its crew invariably overcome all trials. These adventures are described with such humor and self-irony that the book will become a universal source of good mood - for all times and for any reader.
