Evelyn Waugh (1903-1966) - an outstanding British writer, biographer and journalist, one of the most subtle English stylists, as well as a recognized master of black humor and deadly caustic satire, often imbued with hidden lyricism; the creator of grotesquely funny fantasies, where the way of life and ideological paradoxes of the British Empire, which is fading into the past, are fancifully refracted. In addition to novels (including such famous works as Brideshead Revisited, Unforgettable, etc.), the writer’s creative heritage includes several collections of short stories; they were written in different years of his life and in miniature form combined the elements that gave the author the reputation of the greatest prose writer of the twentieth century. According to critics, Evelyn Waugh's stories are a kind of quintessence of style, "sketches and false starts to longer works", and also convincing evidence that one of the most revered and beloved English novelists was also an unsurpassed master of the small form.
This edition presents the works of Evelyn Waugh, collected in the collection "Mr. Loveday's Short Holiday and Other Early Stories", as well as "Juvenilia" and "Oxford Tales".
