The "Thoth Tarot" deck was created in the 1940s by Aleister Crowley - a renowned magician, poet, writer, and founder of the philosophy of Thelema. In this deck, named after the ancient Egyptian god of wisdom, Crowley presented all his... magical knowledge, while Lady Frieda Harris, a talented artist, captured them in illustrations.
Due to their ambiguity, Aleister Crowley's cards have become one of the most popular decks of our time. While earlier Tarot decks conveyed the theme of each card through simple and clear images, Crowley made the illustrations on the cards abstract, expressing the meaning of the arcana through complex symbolism rooted in the realms of magic, astrology, alchemy, Kabbalah, Mediterranean and Celtic traditions, as well as in the secret mythology of Ancient Egypt.
