Mikhail Yevgrafovich Saltykov-Shchedrin (1826–1889) – a famous Russian writer, satirist, journalist, magazine editor, and state official. In his youth, he studied at the Tsarskoye Selo Lyceum, where he first discovered his passion for writing poetry. Over time, the future writer... abandoned verse and began working in prose.
Saltykov-Shchedrin began writing tales in the later years of his life. By dressing in the genre of a tale a cruel parody of officials, fashionable poets, and other representatives of his time, he thus increased the comic effect of his works. This book includes such works by the classic of Russian literature as "The Wild Landowner", "The Wise Piskar", "The Bear in the Voivodeship", "The Tale of How One Peasant Fed Two Generals" and many others.
