Reinecke - fox

"Reinecke the Fox" is a satirical poem by the famous German poet Johann Wolfgang Goethe (1749-1832), created by him in 1793 based on the French medieval epic. The author of the poem masterfully ridicules feudal society. Under the masks of... a bear, wolf, badger and other animals and birds hide representatives of various classes - from courtiers to peasants. At the center of the story is a cunning fox, capable of getting out of any trouble and cleverly deceiving the king himself.
This edition presents the poem in a prose retelling with a complete set of illustrations by Heinrich Leutemann and some works by Wilhelm Kaulbach and Joseph Wolf. The book also includes a French version of the epic with illustrations by Benjamin Rabier.
