The experiment «Ash Tree» allows a child to dive into the world of science and create a tree with the help of fire. The experiment can be conducted both at home and in school during chemistry class!

The ash tree is a product of the decomposition of a complex organic compound - calcium gluconate - into calcium oxide and carbon.

Instructions

1. Place the ceramic tile on a metal tray or a similar non-combustible surface.
2. Pour the urotropine onto the tile in a mound.
3. Make a depression on the tile, resembling a volcano crater.
4. Pour calcium gluconate into the depression.
5. Light the urotropine in several places.
6. Watch as your ash tree begins to grow.
7. At the end of the experiment, extinguish the fire!
