If we lack awareness... – we act unconsciously, by habit, mechanically. We only think that we are conscious and awake because our eyes are open. But habit does not require awareness, which is why we move on autopilot, without will and intention; deep down, we are asleep. And due to our automatic nature, we inevitably cause harm – to ourselves, our loved ones, and the world as a whole.
Only by returning our attention to the present moment, observing ourselves – patiently and non-judgmentally – can we change anything. Once we notice that we endlessly repeat the same pattern of behavior, we will choose a different way to react. Gradually, we will stop being victims of our habits. And we will begin to acquire – naturally and organically – an inner core and balance in our feelings, thoughts, and actions.
Self-observation is of paramount importance for the awakening of the soul from its unconscious dreams.
