Wintering on the Gilyuy

The steep banks, covered with taiga larch forests, of the Far Eastern river Gilyuy, which originates on the southern slopes of the Stanovoy Range, have long been known for their gold deposits. Many free miners illegally washed gold-bearing sands along its tributaries at the beginning of the last century. And the taiga still preserves mute witnesses to their difficult existence. An abandoned dwelling of gold seekers is once discovered by the protagonists of the story – boys living in the capital of the BAM, distant Tynda. Sergey and his friends prefer life in harmony with nature to the benefits and comforts of modern civilization, provoking misunderstanding and condemnation from their parents and peers. The boys build a wintering house in the harsh, yet so familiar and understandable taiga, where they spend all their free time fishing and hunting. On the shores of the capricious taiga river, adventures and trials await them, which they will overcome with dignity, and through this, they will find the strength to uphold their choice of life path.
