Eleven-year-old Jake's life is turned upside down: his dad was injured in Afghanistan, and his mom is leaving to take care of him. This means that Jake will spend the summer on the tiny island of Deweese with his grandmother.... The island turns out to be a nature reserve, far from civilization: there are no cars, paved roads, restaurants, or even stores. What's worse—his grandmother doesn't like television and the internet. On the island, Jake is left without a phone, video games, or friends. It seems like this will be the worst summer of his life!.. However, on the island, he meets other kids—Mason and Louvi. Together, they embark on an adventure and share family secrets with each other along the way.
