Horacio Quiroga (1878-1937) is rightly called the "Uruguayan Kipling." Having lived several years in the selva — the remote Latin American jungle, he wrote beautiful tales about the wild inhabitants of these places, their complex, sometimes tragic lives, and their relationships with humans. The plots of the tales are unusual, but their essence is simple: help your neighbor, do not envy, listen to your mother, be grateful for kindness and help, and do not unleash senseless wars.
Expressive and accurate illustrations by Petr Bagin open up a new world for young readers with unusual animal heroes, without breaking the fairy-tale nature of the narrative.
