Saunders was a physician and astrologer, a good friend of William Lilly, and the title of his book reflects its predominantly practical nature.
Today we no longer use decumbitures – horary charts are more practical and effective, but the traditional humoral... medicine, astroanatomy, and astrology as presented by Saunders are quite interesting and informative. However, the real treasure is found in the next part of the book, containing invaluable descriptions of diseases caused by planets in signs. These diagnostic pictures are extremely useful in practice: they show how the position of planets manifests in specific symptoms of illness.
The third part of Saunders' work links the medical-astrological diagnosis with treatment and contains numerous traditional recipes. This book is one of those that allows us to continue and develop the precious legacy of medical astrology.
All Latin in the book is translated into Russian, and the recipes are accompanied by comments. The book is supplemented with a Glossary, which contains not only translations and explanations of ancient terms but also traditional recipes for common ready-made medicinal forms of that time: elixirs, electuaries, tinctures, pastilles, etc., without which Saunders' recipes lose their practical meaning.
