Young Mihaly Nylash lives far from his family and studies at the famous Hungarian Debrecen Gymnasium. A painfully fastidious, fragile boy suffers greatly from loneliness and desperately misses his father and mother. There is no one close to him who... could give good advice, comfort, and embrace him.
Due to someone else's treachery and an unfortunate turn of events, Mihaly finds himself in an unpleasant, ambiguous situation. Like a bird in a snare, he gets more and more tangled up. He will have to defend his honor and carry a burden that is too heavy for a child.
