Four Sisters

In the old house of Vile-Herve, steps away from the Atlantic Ocean, live the Verdelen sisters. They manage the household independently, grow up, make friends, and find first love. These girls—aged from 9 to 23—really need the support and love... of their parents. But mom and dad are not around; they tragically died in a car accident.
Each of the four parts of the book, named after one of the sisters and simultaneously after a season, shows one of their viewpoints on the events taking place and indicates the passage of time. Thus, along with the heroines, the reader experiences a whole year.
Gradually, the girls cope with their grief and get used to their new life. They are helped by cousins, aunts, friends, and neighbors. And, of course, their own positive perception of this world, realizing that they are a Family and can handle any situations. Adventures and spicy dialogues, gentle humor, and wisdom—together with the sisters, one can laugh and cry, rejoice and feel sad.
French writer Malika Ferdjuh (born in Algeria in 1957) has created an incredibly charming and sunny novel. The complex theme of losing parents is portrayed in the most delicate and bright way. In the different heroines, any young female reader can easily recognize herself. And the more mature audience will appreciate the dynamism of the narrative and the vivid characters of the novel.
The author has spent many years studying the history of cinema and thus skillfully constructs dialogues and brilliantly juggles a crowd of diverse characters. The trilogy "Dreamers of Broadway" by the writer has already been published by "KompasGuide" and is loved by many readers.
The impeccable translation by Nina Khotinskaya conveys the subtlest shades of the heroines' feelings. The portraits of the sisters, created by artist Daria Shveydel, give the reader the opportunity to feel both their courage and fragility at the same time.
