Arkady Petrovich Gaidar (real surname Golikov) (1904-1941) – a Russian writer, war journalist, and a classic of Soviet children's literature. Gaidar began his literary career after being discharged from the army. According to his contemporaries, Arkady composed his works "on... the go": he thought about stories right on the road and wrote them down in simple notebooks. "The Tale of the Military Secret, of Malchish-Kibalchish and his firm word" (1933) – is a story about a brave boy whose father and older brother went to war against the bourgeois. The courageous Malchish was not afraid to confront the enemies and encouraged other boys to fight against evil. The strong-spirited hero of the tale became an example for millions of Soviet children. The book also includes the stories "The Blue Cup", "Smoke in the Forest", "Hot Stone", "At the Crossing", "The Fourth Dugout", "Conscience", "The March", and others.
