In ancient times, when the world was not as it is now, it was easy to encounter giants, dwarfs, and wizards on earth. The son of the mighty King Kiloh easily courted the beautiful Olwen — the daughter of a... giant. Elves invited simple mortals to visit their lands. Beasts and birds helped people in trouble, and if misfortune befell them, they hurried to the cave of the sorcerer Merlin.
The gods also often descended to earth from the heavens. Among them were the gods of proud warlike tribes — the Celts and Germans, who settled across Europe. A young writer Leonid Yahnin helped young readers unravel the intricacies of the epics of these peoples, while the slightly ironic images of deities and heroes were created by artist Igor Oleinikov, winner of the 2018 Hans Christian Andersen International Award.
