Linda La Plante is a well-known English writer, screenwriter, and former actress. She appeared in several popular television productions but became famous as a screenwriter for the series "Widows" and "Prime Suspect" featuring Helen Mirren in the lead role; for... these scripts, La Plante received the Edgar Allan Poe Award ("Edgar") — the main American award in the detective genre, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Award, and the American Emmy Award — the television equivalent of the Oscar. In 1994, she founded her own television company, "La Plante Productions." In 1997, her novel was adapted into a full-length feature film "The Godmother" ("The Best Half of the Mafia"), which was a great success worldwide. Linda La Plante is an honorary member of the British Film Institute and has been awarded the Order of the British Empire.
