R. Kipling – a world-famous writer, the first of British authors to be awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. He wrote the tales for his daughter Josephine, and when the girl died at the age of six from pneumonia, Kipling compiled a collection of twelve tales and published it in 1902 in memory of his beloved child. These tales about ancient times, when the first wild animals appeared, have been translated into almost all languages, and children in all countries enjoy reading them. This book includes seven tales translated by the remarkable children's writers Korney Chukovsky and Samuel Marshak.
