"The Tale of Tsar Saltan..." by Pushkin is one of the first works of great literature that a child becomes acquainted with. Its plot and rhythmic organization allow for the introduction to this tale from the first year of life....
Therefore, it is especially important that the tale is accompanied by colorful illustrations. The tradition of illustrating Pushkin's tales is perhaps one of the richest, longest, and most diverse in Russian book history. Each illustrator brings their own vision to the book, a reading of the text relevant to their era. This is what distinguishes the true masters. They do not simply imitate the text, but by stylizing, they find that figurative language that encompasses both their own vision and the tradition of illustration preceding them.
Here we can recall I. Bilibin, T. Mavrina, V. Konashevich, B. Dekhtyarev.
About the artist:
Olga Bolovintseva is an illustrator and book designer. She was born in 1958 in Moscow. From 1976 to 1981, she studied at the Moscow Polygraphic Institute in the HTOPP faculty under Yu.K. Burdzhelyan, D.S. Bisti, and V.A. Salnikov. Upon graduating, she has been engaged in book design and illustration.
Her work on the book "The Tale of Tsar Saltan..." continues the traditions of Russian classical illustration. There is also a hint of the "Bilibin" frame that elevates the illustration to the level of an artistic painting.
