In his new book, Pyotr Ivanovich Bagin – an artist and writer – continues to engage children with his favorite subject: the wonderful creations of nature – the animals and birds that inhabit the forests of Russia.
The author explains how...
to distinguish a wolf from a dog, a lynx from a wolverine, a white hare from a red hare by their tracks; how to identify the inhabitants of a burrow or nest by their appearance; how to "read" the markings left on trees by a bear or a tiger, etc. The book is filled with many interesting plots: boar baths, milking moose, fishing bears, birds with bags, badger cities, “slides” of otters. The “family” sketches are especially delightful: mothers with their young. Even if the story illustrations are not idyllic (the lynx catches a hare, the tiger grabs a piglet, the owl targets a raccoon), they do not appear tragic and will not bring a small reader to tears: the child will understand that the inhabitants of the forest live their complex lives and act according to their innate instincts.
