This is a story about a Giantess, a Dragon, and the children from the town of Stone-in-the-Dell. Once, Stone-in-the-Dell was a beautiful town, but misfortunes one after another destroyed the library, school, park, and even the good relationships between neighbors....
Something is amiss in the town, but it seems that only the curious children, who live as a close-knit family in the orphanage, and the Giantess, whose hunchbacked little house stands on the very edge, understand this. The townspeople rely only on the mayor, since, after all, he is a world-renowned dragon hunter. At least, since the mayor appeared, no dragon has been seen in the area...
One day, a child goes missing in the town, and the mayor, followed by all the residents, blames the Giantess. The children know this is untrue, but no one wants to hear anything. How can they show the neighbors, who have been misled, who the real villain is?
«The Giantess and the Orphans» is a finalist for the 2022 National Book Award in the USA. Impeccable prose, vivid characters, and an unusual narrator have instantly made the book a classic. It speaks of the power of good and compassion, and how important it is to care for those around us.
