The author of the deck is the... British mystic Arthur Waite. The version of the Tarot cards he developed was illustrated by the artist Pamela Coleman-Smith; the publisher of the deck was William Rider; hence its full name. Time has preserved only five copies of the 1909 deck, and the "Roses and Lilies" deck became the original from which all later decks were reproduced, including the 1910 version. The currently published Tarot card deck is an exact reproduction of the original deck, illustrated and printed in 1909.
