Doctor Zhivago

The novel by Boris Pasternak (1890-1960) "Doctor Zhivago" was created over ten years (1945 - 1955) and is one of the most significant works of Russian literature of the second half of the 20th century.
Painting a broad canvas of the... life of the Russian intelligentsia against the backdrop of the dramatic period from the early twentieth century to the Great Patriotic War, the book touches on the mystery of life and death, the problems of revolution and Russian history. The novel develops several plotlines - the fates of the main characters intertwine in a complex knot.
The book was met with negativity in the Soviet literary environment, and the work remained banned for a long time. "Doctor Zhivago" was first published abroad. A complete first publication in its homeland was only achieved during the perestroika period - in 1988.
