The House is Not Like All the Others

Some houses, like people, have their own secrets. And they will do everything to ensure that these secrets are never uncovered. When Daniel meets Mariasia, a strange girl with eyes that shimmer like mirrors, he immediately feels: this is the... beginning of some extraordinary story. His new acquaintance hides in the bushes and watches a house across the street. This house is not like the others. It is entangled in evil spells, and a roaring lion lives inside. But these are just fairy tales! Or not? Daniel will uncover the mystery of the sinister house, and he will decide to lift the curse at all costs.
 
Family violence is a rare and painful topic in children's literature. It is difficult to talk about, but it is also difficult to remain silent. This book is about the importance of seeing (not just looking), hearing, listening, and feeling. It teaches to believe, even when the truth seems like a terrifying children's fantasy.
 
Małgorzata Strękowska-Zaremba is a Polish writer, journalist, member of the Association of Polish Writers, the Polish section of IBBY, and the Association for Freedom of Speech. Author of books for children and adolescents. Winner of many competitions, nominated for the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award in 2016.
 
The book "The House is Not Like All the Others" became the best children's book for ages 6-9 at the Polish literary competition "Przecinek i Kropka" in 2017.
 
Daniel de Latur is a Polish illustrator. He draws comics and illustrates children's books and magazines. In 2009, he was nominated for the Polish section of the International Board on Books for Young People award for illustrations to Henryk Bardiejewski's work "Expedition to the Land of Prince-Okrain". In 2015, together with Justyna Bednarek, he received the "Przecinek i Kropka" award for the book "The Incredible Adventures of Ten Socks: Four Right and Six Left", and in 2017, together with Małgorzata Strękowska-Zaremba, for the book "The House is Not Like All the Others". He is the second prize winner in the comic competition of the Warsaw Uprising Museum.
