The Wild Landowner and Other Tales

The book presents selected satirical tales by the great Russian writer Mikhail Yevgrafovich Saltykov-Shchedrin (1826–1889). Using allegory, the author exposes typical vices of society: the stupidity, lies, laziness, and ignorance of officials, arbitrariness, and unjust treatment of the people. These socio-political works remain relevant even today. Saltykov-Shchedrin addresses them specifically to the adult reader capable of understanding satire, grotesque, allegory, and appreciating the author's caustic humor.
