Auliya

In the distant medieval times, during the Caliphate, in a village lost in the sands of the Sahara, there lived a lame girl. And she had a gift - to predict rain. The locals were afraid of Auliya; she was not destined to marry. Thus, she would have spent her whole life talking to goats and scorpions if one day a rider in a burnt burnous hadn't arrived in the village. He was from another world, where women cover their faces, and palaces reach the sky. The love that settled in Auliya's heart gave her a dream. In search of it, Auliya embarks on a journey where predators, captivity, and death threaten her. The tales of a thousand and one nights become a fatal reality, and overcoming them alone may threaten the loss of life... or the loss of oneself. Veronika Murguia - a Mexican writer, trained as a historian and artist, created a gallery of strong and unusual female characters. In Auliya, motifs from Eastern tales intertwine in the novel and gain direct psychological meaning. In 2022, Murguia was nominated for the international literary award in memory of Astrid Lindgren (ALMA).
