Adventures of Kubarik and Tomatik, or Joyful Mathematics

Perhaps with this book you started your acquaintance with the concepts of "less" and "more", "longer" and "shorter", "one" and "many". Or maybe you have never heard of "Adventures of Kubarik and Tomatik". In any case, if you have preschool-aged children, Heinrich Sapgir's mathematical fairy tale must be in your home library.

Almost forty years ago, writer Heinrich Sapgir, methodologist Lyudmila Levinova, and artist Vitaly Statsinsky created the book "Adventures of Kubarik and Tomatik, or Joyful Mathematics". The book immediately became a sensation. In the Soviet Union, there were quite a few popular science aids for children, but teaching mathematics to toddlers who could barely speak?!

Progressive parents were engaged with two-year-olds using "Kubarik and Tomatik", and grandmothers and grandfathers prepared preschoolers for entering the first grade. On forums dedicated to childhood books, "Kubarik and Tomatik" are remembered as one of the most beloved, "read to pieces" books.

The book was not reissued for a long time, the last time in the 90s. And now, finally, "Pink Giraffe" releases the long-awaited new edition.

We ourselves have cherished this book since childhood and have repeatedly sought rare copies in second-hand bookstores to read and work with our children. So we understand those parents who dream of introducing their children to Kubarik and Tomatik.

For the new edition, which retains both the fairy tale and the poems of the great Sapgir, and the illustrations of the classic book illustrator Statsinsky, we asked Yulia Lugovskaya (developer of educational aids, author of books for teaching reading about Pip) to come up with new tasks that children can complete with their parents.
