Sopwith F.1 Camel — the most famous British fighter of World War I. It was designed and built by the Sopwith Aviation Company. This aircraft gained fame due to its high combat effectiveness and maneuverability. Sopwith Camels allowed the British to effectively fight for air superiority against German planes. During the war, the 'Camel' fighters shot down 1,294 enemy aircraft. By mid-1918, the Camel fighters became somewhat outdated due to insufficient speed and poor performance at high altitudes, so they were repurposed for ground attack missions. They also served support for infantry and pursued German ground troops.
