The Mistress of Bloshholm

The action of the novel by the talented novelist Henry Haggard takes the reader to England in the 16th century — a time of brutal confrontation between the church and secular power led by King Henry VIII. Syceli Fotrel is the daughter of Sir John Fotrel, the heiress of the lands of Bloshholm and a vast fortune. Her life is easy, and the future seems bright. But the abbot of Bloshholm, Clement Meldon, obsessed with the thirst for money and power, treacherously murders Syceli's father, separates her from her beloved, and claims his rights to the entire Fotrel estate. Young Syceli will have to fight for her family's honor. Many inhabitants of Bloshholm will stand up to defend her, ready to risk their freedom and even their lives, but unwilling to become bloody instruments in the hands of the abbot. The heroes will endure fires and sieges, face betrayal, bribery, and intrigues, and will find themselves on the brink of death more than once… But they will invariably be supported by faith in justice, hope for retribution — and, of course, love… The book is illustrated by the artist Ksenia Zavarzova.
