Caroline Fielding's reputation, a worker at the auction house, is at risk due to the theft of a valuable snuffbox from her safe. Caroline's husband, Jack Pierce, the owner of a private detective agency, agrees to help search for the item and the criminal, despite having quarreled with Caroline many years ago.
