The Caucasian epic is one of the oldest heroic-epic works of the peoples of the world, alongside the "Iliad," "Odyssey," "Shahnameh," and "Kalevala."
Our collection features over fifty Caucasian tales, legends, and traditions from sixteen nations. These works were carefully extracted from books and periodicals of the 19th century and edited by Russian folklorists L. F. Chersky and V. A. Gatsuk. Published between 1900 and 1906, they are presented for the first time as a unified anthology.
Unique and mesmerizing fairy tale plots provide insight not only into the peoples living in this unique region, where the West and East astonishingly converge, but also into the diversity and peculiarities of Caucasian folklore.
